How to make a floppy disk for NIC installation

Please note, this information is provided "as is" and constitutes no warranty and it is also NOT supported by Microsoft, so don't try to get technical support from Microsoft on this information.

I am posting this information to help folks who don't have a CD-ROM drive on the machine that is receiving the network adapter they're trying to install, and need a way to install the base drivers for Microsoft's line of networking adapters. Also, this FAQ requires that you own the CD-ROM disc itself to copy the required files, because the files below are copywrited, I cannot post them here, sorry.

Below is step by step instructions on how to make a driver disk. The table shows the adapter type and the appropriate files and locations on the floppy disk. Also, don't attempt to make a MS-DOS disk (for those using Norton Ghost) because these drivers will not work in Real Mode, they are for Windows 98 or higher ONLY!

1). On a computer that has a CD-ROM drive, format a blank 1.44mb floppy.
2). Make a directory on the floppy called "Drivers" (without quotes).
3). Copy the files for the appropriate networking adapter listed below from the installation CD-ROM into their appropriate directories...

MN-110 - USB Adapter

Files to copy to the root directory of the floppy : MN110.INF and MN110.CAT
Files to copy to the Drivers directory : MN120*.SYS

MN-120 - Notebook Adapter

Files to copy to the root directory of the floppy : MN120.INF and MN120.CAT
Files to copy to the Drivers directory : MN110-50.SYS

MN-130 - PCI Adapter

Files to copy to the root directory of the floppy : MN130.INF and MN130.CAT
Files to copy to the Drivers directory : MN130*.SYS

MN-510 - Wireless USB Adapter

Files to copy to the root directory of the floppy : MNWUSB.INF and MNWUSB.CAT
Files to copy to the Drivers directory : MSWUSB*.SYS and MSWIOC.VXD

MN-520 - Wireless Notebook Adapter

Files to copy to the root directory of the floppy : MNWPCC.INF and MSWPCC.CAT
Files to copy to the Drivers directory : MSWND*.SYS

MN-710 - 802.11g USB Wireless Adapter

Files to copy to the root directory of the floppy : MN710.CAT and MN710.INF

Files to copy to the Drivers directory : MN710-50.SYS, MN710-51.SYS and MN710IOC.vxd

MN-720 / MN-730 - Wireless Notebook Adapter / PCI Adapter

Files to copy to the root directory of the floppy : MN720.CAT and MN70.INF

Files to copy to the Drivers directory : MN720-50.SYS

4). With the computer off, install the hardware and then boot the computer.
5). Insert the newly created driver disk.
6). Windows should detect new hardware and prompt for an installation disk, when it does, point the wizard to the root of the A: drive.
7). If prompted to reboot, remove the driver disk and reboot the computer.
